Sen. Tick Segerblom and Las Vegas Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian said in a press conference today that more marijuana tax dollars should be dedicated to education in Nevada.
As reported in the Las Vegas Review Journal, Segerblom and Tarkanian said “that money generated by Nevada marijuana sales should be pulled out of the state’s rainy day fund and sent directly to school districts.
Segerblom, who is running for Clark County Commission, said he has gotten one question more than any other on the campaign trail: Why isn’t the marijuana money that was promised in Question 2, the ballot measure voters approved in 2016 that legalized recreational marijuana in Nevada, going to education?”
“Let’s take that money and give it to schools,” Segerblom said.
Segerblom’s plan calls for $75 million to be redirected from the state’s “Rainy Day Fund” to Clark County School District public schools so that principals and teachers can have more resources to educate our students.
There is $1 million in marijuana sales per DAY in Nevada. Segerblom believes we can and should dedicate more tax revenue from those sales to education in Nevada.
